Ronaldo – Inside the Mind of a Winner!

One of the most unforgettable moments of Euro 2020 was in the Germany vs Portugal game where 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo defended the ball in Portugal’s 18-yard-box and then ran the full length of the field (94 metres) in 14 seconds (while hitting a top speed of 32 km/h!) to finish off a brilliant counter-attacking goal! But words won’t do it justice. Watch the goal in the video below!

The reason we’re sharing this video with you and the kids is that it takes a special kind of determination and iron will to make moments like these happen in a football match. And for us, it just encapsulates what Cristiano Ronaldo is all about. Here are some reasons why CR7 has become a living legend of the game:

1. Sacrifice Short-Term Comforts for Long-Term Success: Ronaldo moved away from his parents at the tender age of 11 years to enrol at Sporting Lisbon’s Academy. As he grew older, he continued to sacrifice late nights, parties and junk food for healthy living and eating habits that enabled him to excel on the football pitch.

2. Go the Extra Mile: Ronaldo is known for his monster work ethic – showing up early to practice, staying back late to perfect his skills and extra hours in the gym. He left no stone unturned in his pursuit of becoming the world’s best footballer. It is said that while teammates would train twice a day, Ronaldo often trained thrice a day!

3. Insatiable Hunger to Improve: Even as a winner of 32 major trophies (including becoming European Champion with Portugal in 2016 and 5-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid and Manchester United), Ronaldo’s hunger to win and keep pushing his limits is relentless. At the age of 36, he still looks for ways to gain even the slightest edge!

While we can’t promise that your child will be the next Ronaldo, all of us at Footie First can guarantee that we do everything possible to ensure that every child who trains with us has the best shot at succeeding on and off the pitch!
